| The number of visitors to KAIYUKAN reached 50,000,000! |

In commemoration of reaching 50,000,000 visitors, 100,000 KAIYUKAN original mobile phone cleaners will be presented to visitors.
KAIYUKAN welcomed the 50,000,000th visitor at 10:40 a.m. on February 26, 2008 (Tue.). The date has past 6,317 days since KAIYUKA opened on July 20, 1990. It is the fastest attainment among aquariums in Japan.

Each penguin-shaped good is made of acrylic sheets sandwiching a real penguin feather. KAIYUKAN logo is printed on the back side. KAIYUKAN donates 10% of the sales to “Wildlife Protection Foundation Incorporated Association” twice a year for protecting wildlife.

KAIYUKAN had advertised the nickname of whitesided dolphin’s calf (born on August 10, 2006) and California sea lion’s calf (born on September 6, 2007), and decided their nicknames as follows.

（1）Whitesided dolphin’s calf: Earth
Number of application: 1,908
Reason: “Earth” takes after the Japanese vowel pronunciation “a” of its mother “Arch” and “Earth” means our mother Earth in English.
Naming person: Yumi Yamazaki (Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture)
Naming reason: May Earth be filled with happiness and peace.
（2）California sea lion’s calf: Sora
Number of application: 1,663
Reason: The one-year-older brother’s name is “Riku” (means “land” in Japanese). Then “Sora” (means “sky” in Japanese) is suitable for his sister.

At 10:00 a.m. on November 1, 2007, the Measurement Day, KAIYUKAN staff members measured the length of KAI-kun.
The total length of KAI-kun was 423 centimeters and his estimated weight was one ton.
Measurement activities started from 10:00 a.m. in the room located behind the scene if the Pacific Ocean tank on the eighth floor of the KAIYUKAN building. The staff members took video images of the swimming whale shark and measured the length by such images using a computer connected to the video camera.
Further, the staff members measured the disc width of the Manta ray. The width of its disc was three meters wide.
