Echizen Kurage
Academic name: Nemopilema nomurai
This species inhabits along the coastline of Japan and China. It is said that they are from the coastline of China. From summer to autumn they come into Japan Sea floating on the Tsushima Current. This species is one of the largest jellyfish in the world. When it grows, its diameters of the bell reaches 1 meter and its weight does 200 kilograms. Shape of the bell is hemisphere and many bronzed line-shaped adnexa are attached to oral arms. It is edible however, its commercial value is low since its body is softer than that of an edible jelly fish (Rhopilema esculenta). It is mainly used for cooking ingredients of Chinese dishes. This species has been rarely seen in the previous days however, it is frequently seen in major groups these days and the crowds of it cause damage to the fisheries industry. |
